Chapter 6
âSo, what do you guys feel like doing today?â Brendan asked as the three of them sat around their outdoor picnic table, enjoying a late morning coffee in the sun. After the fun and games of the night before, the three of them had a much-needed sleep in that morning. When they finally surfaced long enough for a shower, with some sexy fun water sports that had all three of them roaring their pleasure to the heavens, and then breakfast the morning had been mostly over. Cody had never felt as content as he did in that moment.
He and his brother had found their mate, and they had spent the night loving on her as the Fates had destined. They had shared an intimacy that he hadnât known he had been longing for until he had experienced it for himself. He knew that there would be challenges ahead of them, not least of which the walking corpse that was Mani Vasquez, but he also knew he would fight with everything in him to keep her.
âWell, if itâs okay with you guys, I would like to ask you both a couple of questions.â Lucy sat at the head of the table with Brendan on her left and Cody sat on her right. Her hands clasped around her coffee cup, staring intently into the depths of the cup.
âNowâs the time I wish we had had time to write that book,â Cody said down the link to his brother.
âWhat the hell are you talking about?â Brendan sent back and frowned in his direction
âLast night after you shifted and threw our mate a wolf-sized curveball, I thought how handy it would have been to have a guide book to help navigate telling your human fated one that you were a wolf shifter. Now I think she has questions about being our mate.â
âSo, what?â Brendanâs amusement rang in his voice and vibrated down their link. âYou think book two in that particular series should be Mating a Shifter for DummiesâWhat to Expect When Youâre Fated?â
Cody chuckled, heard a disgruntled humph, and turned to meet flashing violet eyes. He had seen these eyes flash a lot in the past twenty-four hours, but not out of frustration. âThat! That right there is one of the questions I have. Why is it that at times I think I am missing the punch line of a joke, or is it that I am the punch line of the joke?â
âLucy, youâre no joke, punch line, or otherwise, but yeah, there are a few things we should tell you about being a shifter.â Cody turned a little in his chair to face her more directly. âWolf shifters from the same family share a link or a bond that enables them to communicate with each other telepathically.â
Lucy nodded like she understood then stopped and shook her head. âYeah, so that would have been a little harder to believe if you had told me that this time yesterday, but okay.â With a shrug she looked up with a small smile.
